The poly roller drum measures 18-by-24 inches, holds 27 gallons-a hefty 221 pounds-and attaches to most trailers or tractors with a universal hitch. You can fill the roller with sand or water. This is the heaviest roller that I found that can be pushed/pulled by hand, not with a tractor. I rototilled my entire backyard to sow new grass seed. This left the lawn very bumpy and uneven. I smoothed it out as much as possible with a wide metal rake, then rolled with this roller. It definitely helped compact the soil and set the seed in good contact with the soil, but it is just not heavy enough to really smooth out high spots. This is true even though it was only working on loose dirt. It would likely be less effective on an established lawn. It does does what it is supposed to, roll about 230 lbs across your lawn, but don’t expect it to do the job of a 600lb roller.
